The Executive Director (ED) is hired by and is responsible to the Chamber's Board of Directors (BOD).
The ED is the chief administrative and executive officer of the Chamber and is responsible for day-to-day management of all Chamber functions.
The ED must execute the mission and strategic plan as approved by the Board of Directors (BOD).
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
In accordance with Chamber by-laws, policies and annual performance goals established by the BOD, and with appropriate delegation, the ED shall:
MISSION AND STRATEGIC PLANNING Develop and execute programs and activities to maximize mission impact.
Administer policies and programs, in a consistent and timely manner, which are in alignment with the Chamber's long-range strategic goals.
Provide leadership in developing program and organizational plans with the BOD and staff.
Understand and effectively communicate the concepts and philosophies of the organization to the staff and BOD.
Support economic development efforts for the City of Seward with regard to infra-structure and workforce development and expansion.
Serve on local boards, commissions and committees as it pertains to the mission of the Chamber and provide written report of efforts and progress monthly to the BOD.
MEMBERSHIP AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with community leaders, public and governmental officials, private and public entities.
Maintain consistent and effective connection/communication with regional, state and national organizations and general membership.
Oversee and manage City of Seward Marketing contract budget including development of marketing proposal to City Council and monthly reports.
Oversee the completion and distribution of timely and effective marketing and PR related collateral items - this includes the oversight of the Chamber website - www.
seward.
com.
Work towards annual goals related to an increase in membership support for the organization.
Develop and implement new member services and outreach mechanisms.
Address member related issues in positive, timely and professional manner.
Represent the organization through public addresses to various professional and civic organizations.
Report on these efforts monthly to the BOD.
FINANCIAL AND REVENUE MANAGEMENT Oversee the finances of the organization, including implementation of the operating budget with the cooperation and assistance of the Finance Committee and BOD.
Oversee all revenue-generating events, collection of membership dues and any other revenue sources for Chamber.
Oversee publication of annual Destination Guide and event guides.
Assist in development of new revenue generating strategies and programs other than dues or bed tax.
LEGAL COMPLIANCE AND ADMINISTRATION Understand and implement sound financial practices and basic legal requirements related to financial and Human Resource oversight.
Serve as consultant to the Board, the Executive Committee and the BOD regarding any potential legal or administrative issues.
Assist in preparation and distribution of meeting agendas and written monthly report(s) to the BOD.
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Manage the roles of the staff with the approval of the Executive Committee in accordance with the policies and practices approved by the Board of Directors.
Oversee all daily operations and staffing of the Visitors Center.
Establish and maintain an effective and productive staff in a positive workplace environment.
Lead by example in maintaining climate of excellence, accountability and respect.
Recruit, manage and motivate volunteer staff.
Conduct regular meetings to help each staff member understand job duties and work of the organization.
Internally develop staff through direction, coaching, training, support and delegation.
Oversee the management of all contract employees.
Seek professional HR consultation or assistance as needed.
JOB
Qualifications:
Recent experience as a top executive or manager of a comparable organization, preferable a non-profit with a proven track-record of success.
A minimum of a 4-year degree in business, marketing, finance, non-profit management or related field (or equivalent experience) and 5 years' experience in related field.
Local knowledge and enthusiasm related to promoting business development and visitation.
Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans.
Demonstrated experience with managing budgets and evaluating financial statements.
Superior skills in the areas of written and verbal communication, teamwork and collaboration.
Successful supervisory experience.
Ability to manage and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in and organized and timely manner.
Ability to fluently utilize Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Power-Point, Outlook, etc.
Prior experience with production and distribution of timely and effective marketing and PR related collateral items, including website management.
Flexibility in work schedule to include evenings and/or weekends as needed to travel to and attend events and meetings.
A current Driver's License and personal vehicle that can be used for Chamber business (at the current IRS allowable mileage reimbursement).
Duties:
Oversee and manage all aspects of the organization's operations, including business development, process improvement, and project management.
Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
Lead and motivate a team of employees, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful execution of projects and initiatives.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for growth and expansion.
Build and maintain relationships with key partners, clients, and stakeholders.
Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors, suppliers, and other external parties.
Monitor financial performance, budgets, and expenses to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and meetings.
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Proven experience in executive leadership roles, with a focus on business development, operations management, and process improvement.
Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership abilities with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Ability to adapt to changing environments and navigate complex situations.
