Independent Living Center (ILC) is a leader in the disability advocacy arena in Alaska.
ILC assists Alaskans of all ages and disabilities residing in the Gulf Coast Region of Alaska to live as independently as possible in the homes and communities of their choice.
ILC is also an Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), providing information, referral and options counseling regarding long term supports and services.
ILC has four offices located in Homer, Soldotna, Kodiak and Seward and provides outreach/itinerant services to communities in the Valdez/Cordova Census Area.
The Position:
The TRAILS Advocate holds an essential position in the community of Seward.
TRAILS has been a successful recreation program in Seward since 2005.
This position works with another IL Advocate in the Seward ILC office as well as other ILC staff in the three other offices.
This position will work to schedule and facilitate inclusive recreation opportunities for persons experiencing disabilities on a year round basis.
Examples of activities include halibut fishing in Resurrection Bay, skiing or snowboarding at Alyeska, berry picking adventures, Kenai Fjords trip, ceramics and craft classes, bonfires and other social and adventure style activities participants may be interested in.
The candidate should demonstrate the following abilities; well organized, ability to multi-task, flexibility to work independently and as part of a team, exceptional people skills, including clear and respectful communication, emotional maturity and professionalism, sense of humor and passion for ILC's work.
Supervisory and/or similar recreation experience is desired.
Candidates must have a minimum of three years experience working in the human services arena.
Candidates must be proficient with computers using Microsoft Office Suite, be self motivated and understand or be willing to learn Independent Living Philosophy.
Wage, Benefits and Hours:
This position is 30-40 hours/week job, depending on skill set.
Wage $18-$22/hour, DOE.
Benefits include access to Health Reimbursement Account, 401K, paid holidays and personal leave.
Priority will be given to qualified individual with a disability.
Also other human service related experience would be welcomed and considered.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
